Is stem cell therapy for Tendon & Sports Injuries FDA-approved?
No regenerative medicine therapy is FDA-approved for tendon injury or tendinopathy. An IND-authorised study, emergency or expanded-access pathway, or registry listing is not product approval. In Europe, a trial authorisation is distinct from EMA marketing authorisation. Patients should verify the exact product and regulatory basis.
How stem cells are studied for Tendon & Sports Injuries
Tendons transmit muscle force to bone and can develop acute tears or chronic degenerative tendinopathy. Healing and symptoms vary by tendon, load, vascularity, injury severity and rehabilitation. Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs), extracellular vesicles and other biological approaches are being studied for proposed effects on inflammation, vascular signalling and collagen organisation observed mainly in preclinical models. These mechanisms have not established stronger tendon tissue or faster safe return to sport in people. The registry table on this page lists relevant studies and their current recruitment status.
