Question

Is stem cell therapy for Tendon & Sports Injuries worth it?

Current evidence does not support buying cell or exosome therapy as routine tendon care or assuming it prevents surgery or fibrosis. The most defensible access is through a well-designed registered clinical trial with independent oversight, transparent costs and no promise of tissue regeneration or faster return to sport. Participation must not delay evidence-based rehabilitation or indicated specialist care.

How stem cells are studied for Tendon & Sports Injuries

Tendons transmit muscle force to bone and can develop acute tears or chronic degenerative tendinopathy. Healing and symptoms vary by tendon, load, vascularity, injury severity and rehabilitation. Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs), extracellular vesicles and other biological approaches are being studied for proposed effects on inflammation, vascular signalling and collagen organisation observed mainly in preclinical models. These mechanisms have not established stronger tendon tissue or faster safe return to sport in people. The registry table on this page lists relevant studies and their current recruitment status.
