Question

What is the success rate of stem cell therapy for Rheumatoid Arthritis?

No universal success rate exists for cell therapy in RA. Pain change alone can be affected by expectation and concurrent treatment; review validated disease activity, function, imaging, steroid and DMARD use, comparator, adverse events and complete follow-up.

What the evidence shows for Rheumatoid Arthritis

Human studies of cell products are heterogeneous and should be assessed by exact source, processing, dose, route, RA activity, background DMARDs, comparator and validated outcomes. The NIAMS RA treatment overview describes early use of DMARDs, biologic or targeted therapies, monitoring, rehabilitation and surgery where appropriate. A cell trial must not be used to delay effective control of inflammation.
