Question

What is the success rate of stem cell therapy for Osteoporosis & Bone Health?

A reliable success rate for osteoporosis cell therapy is not established. Bone-marker change, stable bone density, increased bone density and fewer fractures are different endpoints and should not be merged. Small uncontrolled studies cannot predict an individual's fracture risk reduction. The registered studies and their own prespecified endpoints are listed in the registry table on this page.

What the evidence shows for Osteoporosis & Bone Health

Human osteoporosis studies of cell-based approaches are early and heterogeneous, with small samples, different products, delivery methods and endpoints. Changes in bone-turnover markers or bone mineral density do not by themselves establish fracture prevention, which is the clinically important outcome. No large pivotal trial has established a cell product as effective standard osteoporosis treatment. No pooled response rate is published here because the studies are too heterogeneous for a single figure to be meaningful. The registered studies and their own prespecified endpoints are listed in the registry table on this page.
