Is stem cell therapy for Hip Osteoarthritis FDA-approved?
No regenerative medicine therapy is FDA-approved for hip osteoarthritis or hip pain. An IND-authorised trial, registry listing, ATMP classification or medical-device pathway is not product approval for hip OA. In Europe, a trial authorisation is distinct from EMA marketing authorisation. Patients should verify the exact product and regulatory basis.
How stem cells are studied for Hip Osteoarthritis
Hip osteoarthritis (OA) involves progressive structural and biological changes in cartilage, bone and synovium that can cause pain, stiffness and reduced function. Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs), extracellular vesicles and other biological approaches are being studied for proposed anti-inflammatory or tissue-signalling effects. Intra-articular delivery places a product in the joint but does not establish cartilage regeneration or slower disease progression. Cell or exosome injection is not standard disease-modifying hip-OA care. The registry table on this page lists relevant studies and their current recruitment status.
