Question

What is the success rate of stem cell therapy for Ulcerative Colitis?

A reliable success rate for ulcerative-colitis cell therapy is not established. Clinical symptoms, endoscopy, histology, steroid-free remission and colectomy avoidance are different endpoints and should not be merged. Uncontrolled clinic percentages cannot support comparison with approved medicines. The registered studies and their own prespecified endpoints are listed in the registry table on this page.

What the evidence shows for Ulcerative Colitis

Evidence for systemic MSC or other cell treatment of ulcerative colitis remains early and heterogeneous. Studies vary by product, route, background medicine, disease severity, comparator and definitions of clinical, endoscopic and histological remission. Small or incompletely blinded studies cannot support a general response rate or comparison with approved biologics. No pooled response rate is published here because the studies are too heterogeneous for a single figure to be meaningful. The registered studies and their own prespecified endpoints are listed in the registry table on this page.
