Question

Is stem cell therapy for Macular Degeneration & Vision FDA-approved?

No regenerative medicine therapy is FDA-approved for macular degeneration. An IND-authorised trial or registry listing is not product approval. In Europe, a trial authorisation is distinct from EMA marketing authorisation. Patients should verify the exact product, sponsor, registry identifier, competent authority and ethics approval.

How stem cells are studied for Macular Degeneration & Vision

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and inherited retinal diseases can damage photoreceptors or the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), but they are distinct conditions with different causes and established management. Investigational cell approaches include RPE or retinal progenitor products derived from sources such as induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC). Laboratory differentiation or integration hypotheses do not establish restored vision in people. Product identity, surgical route, immune risk and disease stage are critical. The registry table on this page lists relevant studies and their current recruitment status.
